I am immensely grateful to Dr. Astrid Giugni for this project’s origins and growth. What began as an inquiry into the occurrences of scriptural citations in William Perkins’ sermons in the year-long Early Modern London project, which was funded by Duke’s Center for Computational Thinking and led by Dr. Giugni, has evolved into a large-scale investigation of scriptural references across all accessible printed sermons in my information science senior capstone course, also supervised by Dr. Giugni. Currently in my gap year, I am continuing to build EEPS. Furthermore, my journey in the digital humanities began with the research projects on early modern print led by Dr. Giugni in Duke’s Bass Connections and Data+ programs. My interest in Renaissance literature and print culture was also greatly nurtured and encouraged in several profound and wonderful courses taught by Dr. David Aers, Dr. Julianne Werlin, Dr. Sarah Beckwith, and Dr. Clare Woods. My knowledge of database management and front-end development comes from a course taught by Dr. Jun Yang, and my grasp of modern NLP concepts and implementations is heavily indebted to Dr. Bhuwan Dhingra’s teaching.

About Me

I am an incoming first-year PhD student in the English Department at Princeton University. I graduated from Duke University in May 2024 with a B.S. in Computer Science, minor in Medieval and Renaissance Studies, and certificate in Information Science + Studies. My interests include: the intertexts and geographies of the texts, marginalia, and metadata of early printed books; comparative analyses of scriptural hermeneutics around early modern political, legal, and ethical issues, particularly conquest, colonization, and other such violations of Christian charity; Milton’s poetry, politics, and theology, as well as musical and theatrical adaptations of Milton’s works. Feel free to browse some of my older work in my portfolio. You can reach me at amycweng@gmail.com.
