When Phinehas stood up and executed judgement (upon Zimri and Cozbi, as Moses and the Iudges had before done of many others that were joyned unto Baal-Peor, Numb. 25. 4, 5. and so removed the cause of Gods displeasure) the plague was stayed, saith the Prophet, Psal. 106. 30. All the weeping of the whole congregation before the doore of the tabernacle (of which we read Numb. 25. 6.) could do nothing without that. |
