These kind of Officers, though they were of good reputation with the Romans, as we may collect out of several orations of Cicero, for by their place they had the priviledge to be reckoned amongst the Equites Romani; yet in the Countreys wherein they liv'd, especially in Jewry, a tenacious covetous nation, they were the most odious persons upon the Earth: |
