Now to that part of the Question relating to the commands of Superiours, we may say again more generally, That it is a most certain truth, That we must obey God rather than men, Act. 5. 29. And that we are bound to use all the means that God hath put within our reach to be fully perswaded in our minds, touching the lawfulness of every Action we go about, be it commanded or uncommanded by our Superiours, Rom. 14. 5. And we are well assured by the Apostle, That whatsoever is not of faith is sin, Rom. 14. 23. And therefore no man ought to be debarred the liberty of securing his own Soul as well as he can, by examining the lawfulness of the things commanded. 2.
