Note 0 Most probably this was the yearly tribute to the Temple, gathered by the Jews according to Exod. 30.13. not a tribute to the Roman Power, but to the King of Heaven; so our Saviour intimates, that he was the Son of God, and therefore, according to the priviledg of Kings Sons; should be free, only (the Jews not being convinced of this) to avoid offenc• he submits to their demand.
