2. This Meditation of the going forth of the soul, and return of the body, is a no lesse powerfull disswasive from a voluptuous life, then an haughty mind. Oh that you who have vivendi voluptatem the pleasure of life, would contemplate moriendi necessitatem, the necessity of death: That you who have the world at will, would remember you have not death at command. I die (said Esau) and what good will my Birthright do me? Oh that the voluptuous Epicure would say, I die, and what good will my vain and sensual pleasures do me! |
