Note 0 In the Mass for the dead, there is not the name of Purgatory; nor it doth not appear that the Church thought of any such thing. The Hymn is wholely of the day of Judgment. The Prayers are for deliverance at that Day: and if they are for any thing else, it is nothing but what is asked for All the Faithful as much as for any person. The Lessons and Sequences are all concerning the Resurrection. There is not among them One Text of those Many that are brought for the proof of Purgatory: except only 2. Mac. xii. 43. Which according to the Roman Doctrine should be rather for 〈 ◊ 〉, than for Purgatory; But indeed it relates to neither, but (as the Office intends it,) to the Resurrection.
