They were not then like the Parents of our last and worst Times, who when their children are Blind, or Crooked, or (in a word) nothing worth, do fly for refuge to the Temple, and make them Deodates. God is little beholding to such a Parent, who when his Son is too dull for either the Shop, or the Exchange, does straight present him unto the Lord, by devoting him to serve in his dreadful House, and (as a Minister) to wait at his holy Table; Does give him over to the Pulpit, because too old for the Grammar School; And if he cannot Write or Read, does therefore teach him to Pray extempore. As if to the office of a Workman who needeth not to be asham'd, there were nothing required but lungs and Impudence.
