Others do say, That Semiramis was the principall person to advance the glory of Babylon, and brought it in her dayes near to perfection; for Berosus l. 4. doth write, that Nimrod built only the Tower, & not the City, nec designatam urbem fundavit; And he affirmeth (if any credit may be given to him) that Nebuchadnezzar built onely a new City joyning to the old, and as Scaliger notes upon the fragments of Berosus, saith that there he built his stately Pensile Gardens to satisfie the desire of his wife Nitocris. |
