1. In convening, that the Churches may meet in this way by his authority, under his wing, by his allowance, under his protection; thus were the ancient generall Councells called by the authority of the Supream Magistrate, the Christian Emperours; some of them graced and honoured with their personall presence and subscriptions: and thus in topicall Councells, (as they call them) particular, Classicall, Provinciall, Nationall Synods, (where it may be had) the concurrence of the Christian Magistrate is still to be looked at and desired: |
